The movie’s title comes from the artificial Na’vi bodies that humans can control with their minds to interact with the natives.

Director James Cameron started working on Avatar in 1994 when he first wrote the story. He planned to film it after finishing Titanic in 1997 and release it in 1999. However, he had to wait because the technology needed to make the movie wasn’t advanced enough at that time. The movie first showed in London on December 10, 2009, and then opened in the United States on December 18.

The production paused in July 2023 due to an actors’ strike, started again in March 2024, and finished in November 2024.
