The story takes place in the future, around 2150, when humans are mining a precious mineral called unobtanium on Pandora, a moon with rich wildlife. As humans expand their mining operation, they threaten the survival of the Na’vi, the tall, blue native people of Pandora. The movie’s title comes from the artificial Na’vi bodies that humans can control with their minds to interact with the natives.

Director James Cameron started working on Avatar in 1994 when he first wrote the story. He planned to film it after finishing Titanic in 1997 and release it in 1999. However, he had to wait because the technology needed to make the movie wasn’t advanced enough at that time. The movie first showed in London on December 10, 2009, and then opened in the United States on December 18.

DC Comics’ Superman franchise, based on the character created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in June 1938, has released many films. The character first appeared in animated shorts in 1941 and had two film serials in 1948 and 1950. Lippert Pictures also released the first feature-length film, Superman and the Mole Men, in 1951. In 1973, Ilya Salkind, Alexander Salkind, and Pierre Spengler acquired the movie rights. Richard Donner was hired as director and filmed two movies simultaneously: Superman (1978) and Superman II (1980), both starring Christopher Reeve. Donner completed 75 percent of Superman II before focusing on finishing the first film. Richard Lester directed Superman II and returned for Superman III (1983). The Salkinds also produced the spin-off film Supergirl in 1984. They later sold the rights to Cannon Films, which made Superman IV: The Quest for Peace in 1987. In 1993, Warner Bros. bought the rights after Ilya Salkind commissioned a fifth Superman screenplay.

Filming started in the UK in March 2022 and took place across several countries including Malta, South Africa, and Norway. The production paused in July 2023 due to an actors’ strike, started again in March 2024, and finished in November 2024. The movie was first called Dead Reckoning Part Two but got its new name, The Final Reckoning, in November 2024. The movie will come out in U.S. theaters on May 23, 2025, through Paramount Pictures.
